Concussion Recovery [Multiple Injuries] (2016)

As a multi-sport athlete growing up through high school, I had several brain injuries. I've had six total concussions. They took a lot for me. They took a lot of my personality, they took a lot of my cognitive reasoning, a lot of what made me, me. It took a lot of my ability to pay attention to things, to my ability to gain relationships with my parents especially my mom. It affected me deeply. Before Cognitive FX, I tried other programs. I tried different places, everything seemed to just say that I was fine; this was the first place I came to that took a functional MRI of my brain and was actually able to give me objective results on what was going on in my brain, and why wasn't I able to process different types of information.

The staff here at Cognitive FX treated me excellent. They challenged me; they pushed me; they were very very positive. Everyone here knew me, my name, which was amazing to me. I really felt welcomed, I felt excited in the morning to come in here and to work on myself. I never felt shamed for having an injury or if I messed up. Everyone here was just always supportive. So I really really enjoyed that. I was able to bring my brain level back to not just a normal - the normal function but actually above average, so that was excellent to see as I had a moderate to severe score before then and this was just only in a week. I'm feeling much better; I woke up this morning without falling. I'm able to have conversations normally like I used to, I am able to pay attention to auditory information like I used to and not get overwhelmed. It's making a difference already in my life.
Mother: As a mom, it's been really difficult to see him struggle for the last three years. It's been probably the biggest challenge that we've had as a family. We wanted to find hope somewhere and coming here has really filled those dreams. When we did the first functional MRI, it showed that he had moderate brain damage and then we understood more clearly why he was acting the way he was acting, and why the difficulties that he was having; I would say that what we noticed the most was the emotional disturbance that he had and he could feel everything that's going on inside of his brain that we could see on the outside how he felt and that was probably the hardest thing. This week as I dropped him off and picked him up, we've had several conversations that have been very pleasant and things that would normally be too much for him to process and get him upset, he was able to function and process them very normally and he was just normal without excess emotions. That's one of the major things that I've noticed this week and I'm very very grateful, that he can make that recovery.

6 concussions over the years 5 days later, he has a new life.
