This is the 2023-spec Vintage V65H offset guitar – which now comes in a stunning Satin Purple finish with stacked Wilkinson P90 pickups!

The 2023 V65H (also available in Satin Grey and Satin Blue) is priced at around $450-500, and so is definitely going to be on the shortlist for many players looking for new affordable offset guitar goodness - and who might not only be looking at a Fender Jazzmaster or Jaguar - in their life.

On paper, it looks fantastic. You get an alder body and a one-piece maple neck topped with a rosewood fingerboard. The 25.5” scale neck is a soft C shape with a sleek satin finish, and you get 22 medium jumbo frets, a 10” fingerboard radius, and a Graph Tech nut, with Wilkinson Deluxe tuners at the (also Satin Purple) headstock.

Sounds-wise, you get a pair of Wilkinson W90SK stacked ceramic soapbar pickups, which should deliver single coil clarity with added fatness – and none of that P90 hum! We also get a Wilkinson WVFS six saddle hardtail bridge, which should be great for tuning stability.

All things considered, then, the V65H should be a contender in the world of affordable offsets – but can it compete with the Fenders and Squiers of this world? That’s what we find out here, as I test the guitar in as many different genres and styles as I can, from country, folk and indie, to pop, rock, punk, metal and more.

My setup was as follows: I ran the V65 into my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head, also using my Greer Lightspeed and my Revv G3 pedals for overdrive and distortion sounds. The amp went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done.
