The new Cupra Born is coming to Australia. It is a fully electric hot hatch that makes 170kW of power with rear-wheel drive only – which sounds fun to us. In fact, the new Cupra Born will become the first RWD hot hatch since the BMW M140i left our shores (albeit with less power - but instant electric punch). Cupra aims to price it around a Volkswagen Golf GTI, or a bit above, possibly with multiple trim grades. At first it is likely to be one high-specification grade with 170kW (227 hp) and the long-range battery.

When it arrives, the 2023 Cupra Born will compete with the Tesla Model 3, Nissan Leaf and other relatively affordable EVs, and with small premium combustion cars like the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
