Israel is rocked by a scandal involving Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the army’s top legal officer, who was arrested after admitting to leaking surveillance footage showing the alleged sexual abuse of a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman military base.
The leak, intended to expose serious misconduct, triggered outrage from hardline Israeli leaders. Following her resignation, Tomer-Yerushalmi briefly went missing, sparking a nationwide search before she was found on a Tel Aviv beach and taken into custody.
The case has ignited a national debate on military accountability, human rights, and political pressure within Israel’s defense establishment. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the leak “the most serious public relations attack” against Israel to date.
