In the days since the United States attacked Venezuela, Donald Trump has ramped up his threats to take over Greenland, the minerals-rich Danish territory in the Arctic.

Greenland holds one of the world's largest untapped deposits of the critical rare earth minerals, an ingredient found in a wide range of modern technology from personal gadgets to defense weaponry.

In this interview from earlier in 2025, former US National Security Council official Alexander B. Gray explains Greenland's geopolitical importance and why the autonomous territory should strike a deal with the United States.
