To Our 137 Senior Pilots Who Elected Early Retirement; Thank You
The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected the airline industry, and as with many airline carriers, it caused Alaska Airlines to drastically reduce flight schedules, which in turn led to questions about staff reductions, including pilots represented by the Air Line Pilots Association Int’l (ALPA). While pilot jobs appeared to be at risk, union leaders quickly mobilized to create solutions that would prevent any furloughs and afford those who wanted to retire early the ability to do so.
Due to these union efforts, as of today, no ALPA pilot at Alaska Airlines has been involuntarily furloughed. This video is a small token of appreciation to honor the careers of the 137 pilots who elected early retirement – helping to preserve the jobs of those targeted for furlough.
We are pleased to honor our 137 pilots and to commemorate their prestigious careers and the positive impacts they have made on the Alaska Airlines pilot group.
