Was Stalin Really Unprepared for War? #ww2 #stalin #history #worldwar2 #ussr

Liberal propaganda claims Stalin was unprepared for war with Germany. What was the reality?

The military factor influenced Soviet policy during the 1930s. Being aware of a possible invasion, the USSR intensified the process of industrialisation and collectivisation to create a powerful army and secure the rear. The Red Army grew from 600,000 soldiers in the 1920s to about 5 million by 1941. It was well-equipped with modern weapons. Among the examples are iconic T-34 and KV tanks, Katyusha rocket launchers and Shpagin submachine guns.

Preparation proved effective when the war began. Factories were moved to the east of the Urals in 1941–1942 and restored production promptly. In 1943, the USSR outproduced Germany in tanks, artillery, and airplanes.

Preparations were not limited to economy. Soviet leadership expected a multifront war. Japan launched invasions in 1938–39, but was ultimately defeated at Khalkhin Gol. Thus, Japan remained neutral in 1941. Turkey mobilised almost 1 million soldiers during the battle of Stalingrad in 1942, ready to attack the USSR. Before the German invasion, even Britain and France had prepared a plan to bomb Soviet oil fields.

Thus, the Soviet leadership prepared economically, militarily, and diplomatically. Intensive economic development, skillful diplomacy and military successes made a significant contribution to the eventual victory in World War II.
