Post-Op Meniscus Rehab: What to Do Early in Recovery
Meniscus rehab should not start weeks after surgery.
At The Lab Sports Med, one of the biggest priorities early after a meniscus arthroscopy is helping patients understand what they should and should not be doing right away. Simple things like restoring knee extension early and avoiding positions that keep the knee bent for long periods can make a major difference during recovery.
Early rehab focuses on reducing swelling, restoring extension, rebuilding quad activation, and teaching controlled movement patterns before progressing load.
As the knee improves, rehab moves into strength work, controlled squatting, cycling progressions, posterior chain training, lateral movement, and eventually plyometric and return-to-sport progressions.
Throughout the process, objective testing helps guide decisions. Strength testing, force plate analysis, jump testing, asymmetry tracking, and movement assessments help determine whether an athlete is actually ready to progress.
At The Lab, return-to-sport rehab is based on criteria, movement quality, strength symmetry, and sport demands, not just timelines on a calendar.
Recovering from meniscus surgery? Contact The Lab Sports Med to start a rehab plan based on your movement, strength, and return-to-sport goals.
