Hurricane Iota Rapidly Intensifying on Approach to Nicaragua and Honduras - Live Update

Hurricane Iota has been rapidly intensifying during the past 24 hours and is now a high-end category 1 hurricane, marking the first time a hurricane has occurred in this part of the Atlantic basin this late in the year. further rapid intensification is likely, and Iota is currently forecast to become a category 4 hurricane in the next 36 hours before making landfall in Nicaragua or Honduras, marking the second major hurricane landfall in Central America in under 3 weeks. Iota will also be bringing high rainfall totals in excess of 500 millimeters regionally to areas that are just beginning to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Eta, alongside major hurricane sustained winds and a storm surge of 10-15 feet / 3-5 meters near the landfall location.
