Christmas as it was a 100 years ago: Merry Christmas to all my viewers!

A sentimental old style video showing what Christmas was like about a century ago. It is good that people realize that todays abundance in food and Christmas attrbutes was not always the case. Poverty in the 1920s was widespread and many families had great difficulties to prepare a Christmas dinner, let alone have money to spend on presents for their children.

This film shows such a poor family. The father is ill, probably on the dole, and the children are hoping for some Christmas presents. Good Samaritans helped such families, often buying presents from their own pockets. It is great to see how the children go to sleep the night before Chrismas and are surprised and very happy the next morning seeing that their stockings having been filled over night. While the film plays we see a company choir beautifully singing famous Christmas carols.

Please note that the story footage is from the 1920s but the choir footage is from the 1940s/1950s. The choir is just there to support the 1920s story.
