Wonderful views of the picturesq city of Alkmaar in The Netherlands almost a century ago. Alkmaar is especially known for its cheese market and the cheese bearers in their white costumes.
It is a middle-size town in the province of Noord-Holland. The town has been in existence since the middle ages. A mention of the town "Alcmere" already occurred in the year 1063.
It lies at the "Noord Hollandsch kanaal", a canal that was dug in 1819 and opened around 1824.
This canal is famous for its floating bridges. One of them can be seen in this film.
This bridge is still in existence but has been moved upstream.
