Let's kick off the list with what Simmons has to offer. The SD350 comes with all mesh pads on a very small 2 post drum rack frame. It has 8” drums, the toms are single zone, and the snare is dual zone. The cymbals are 10” across. The drum module is pretty limited. It only has 179 sounds, and has the bare minimum selection of ports. A headphone jack, aux for your phone, and a master out. Unfortunately this set does not have a kick drum pad either. The only thing that makes this set unique is that it has a decent iphone app, but that is not worth buying this set over.

Moving on to Alesis, we have the brand new Alesis Nitro Mesh. Now there was a version of this call just the Nitro, but it’s getting very very hard to find at music websites, so I’m guessing it’s been discontinued and replaced by the Nitro Mesh Version. At $350, this has similar sizes to the Simmons. 8” drums, 10” cymbals. But this set is on a 4 post aluminum drum rack, has an actual kick drum tower, and the module is much more powerful. The Nitro module comes with 385 sounds, room to add an extra tom and cymbal. USB Midi, and Classic in out ports, Stereo master outs, Aux in for your phone, and a headphone jack. I’ll go over my final thoughts of the pros and cons near the end of the video, but honestly this kit stomps all over the Simmons drumset.

Finally we have 2 Behringer drumsets. The XD8USB, and the XD80USB. 123 175 I’m grouping them together because they are practically the same kit with one very tinny difference. So both kits come with 8” rubber pads for the toms and snare, and 12” cymbal pads. The XD8 has a module with 123 sounds inside, and the XD80 has 175 sounds. This drumset has all the drum pads that Alesis used to use 4 years ago on the DM6 line which is now discontinued. One interesting thing is that the Nitro Mesh and these behringer drumsets still do share an identical kick drum pad. They are all sourcing parts from the same company, Medelie.
