Massive Forest Fires in Japan Trigger Evacuations, No Casualties Reported

More than 1,800 people have been ordered to evacuate their homes after wildfires broke out in Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan.

Residents from around 700 households in Otsuchi were asked to leave as fires spread across more than 150 hectares of forest, damaging several buildings.

Authorities have confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far.

The region had previously witnessed one of Japan’s largest forest fires in decades last year, raising concerns as the situation unfolds.
