PRAGUE AUDIENCE WAS ENCHANTED WITH MAESTRO CURA'S CONDUCTING
The Prague audience was enchanted. Cura is the resident artist for FOK and in addition to his singing and conducting duties, he managed to devise a program of mostly South American music from the 20th century that completely filled the Smetana Hall. Although Cura prepared everything, he offered a surprise to the audience: with a single European work on the program, Ravel’s ‘Bolero,’ Cura invited a young drummer to the podium and then sat among the audience as the drummer led the orchestra for the entire piece while playing, mastered to perfection. A complete ‘congress of drummers’ was featured in the final work of the evening, with the Czech premiere of the film music for ‘Night of the Mayas’ by Mexican Silvestre Revueltas. During this beguiling performance the FOK had help from several students from the Prague Conservatory who coped with the rhythmically and dynamically challenging parts impeccably, as did the FOK in this different and unknown piece.

José Cura...December 9, 2016 --- Sharing one post the orchestra received yesterday night.
Paul Margulies, "I've been going to the symphony for almost 55 years. Watching Maestro Cura conduct the FOK reminds me of Leonard Bernstein conducting the New York Philharmonic. He always looks like he's enjoying the orchestra, and more importantly, the orchestra appears to truly enjoy playing for him. Last night's concert (Dec. 8, 2016) was one of the highlights of the season, followed by almost 15 minutes of ovations. Bravo!"
