Automatic Sewing Awl Restoration

This is a vintage automatic sewing awl for making lock-stitches in leather and heavy canvas. It was made by the Anchor Mfg Co. Dayton Ohio.
I got it many years ago in a box of HO scale train set stuff my grandfather gave me. It has sat unused and unloved in a shoe-box in my basement ever since because I really didn't know what it was for. But recently I have been doing some leather work, and found a chapter on how to use a "Speedy Stitcher" in a book I bought to help me learn. That was when I remembered I had one of those hiding somewhere! I found it but also found it was not ready to be used. So on with a restoration!
the metal parts were blasted, then either painted or electroplated with nickel. This is my first attempt at plating. First I clean the parts in a vinegar and salt bath while applying current, then a rinse in distilled water, then the plating is done in the electrolyte solution (That I spelled wrong on the label).
The handle was refinished with stain and 3 coats of Boiled linseed oil.
When everything was finished I made a small storage pouch out of a leather scrap.
in this video I used the following products
3M blue painters tape
Rustoleum filler primer and hammered finish paint
3M 320 sandpaper
Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish
Brasso
Evaporust
Minwax Stain
Boiled Linseed Oil
Media blasting was done using Glass beads.
