Defamation Per Se and a Wheelbarrow: MacDonald v. Riggs | Tort Law

Welcome back, everybody! Today, we're talking about defamation per se in MacDonald v. Riggs, 166 P.3d (Alaska 2007). In this case, MacDonald found herself in a tight situation involving a motorized wheelbarrow, an overzealous neighbor, and, allegedly, a rifle. But, in the end, the reason we're here isn't because of what was done, necessarily, but what wasn't done and what she said. In this case, a statement of fact came back to bite her, and the defamation suit was underway.
