Triplets: A Gateway To Metric Modulation

Let's talk metric modulation! My goal for this video was to share the easiest way I can think about metric modulation, which is just a reconceptualization of triplets, combined with some basic knowledge of polyrhythms.

This video uses the 6:4 and 3:4 polyrhythmic relationships to explore how to get from 100bpm to either 150 or 75bpm using triplets over a standard groove to get there. If you learned something or if this video inspired you to think a little differently behind the drums, please let me know!
