COVID-19 is 'not a unique disease', yet here we are, with lockdowns everywhere: Jones

Sky News host Alan Jones calls upon politicians to “bury alarmism and bring on the truth” regarding the country’s response to COVID-19.

His comment comes after Prime Minister Scott Morrison implored states and territories to “scrap border closures”.

“Prime Minister, there is a significant body of reputable epidemiological scholarship which would tell you that lockdowns shouldn't have been embraced in the first place,” Mr Jones said.

He cited Professor of Theoretical Epidemiology at Oxford University Sunetra Gubpta who “urged Australia to abandon its selfish and self-congratulatory lockdown tactics and embrace a Swedish-style herd immunity to help fight COVID-19".

“But no, we would rather listen to chief medical officers here, many of whom are way out of their depth,” Mr Jones said.

“If you're old and frail and have underlying health conditions, then even that most harmless of all infections, the common cold, can be deadly. In fact, it often is.

“COVID-19 is not a unique disease.

"It does not appear to have a noticeably higher mortality rate than the so-called common cold.

"Yet here we are with lockdowns everywhere.

“I won't be letting up on this because I am sick and tired of the nation being told rubbish. Or should that word be lies?

“The point is, none of us are trusted. Governments are determining what we do about our health. And the consequences may be damaging indeed.

“Can some of these politicians do some research of some scholarship, bury the alarmism, bring on the truth”.
