Manuel Villaescusa | Ayahuasca in Cases of Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
#AYA2019 - Hall 2
Psychologist Manuel Villaescusa made a presentation at the World Ayahuasca Conference on the use of ayahuasca in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, whose main symptom is an intense anxiety: the body feels reaction of irrational pain even when there is no external reason to produce this fear. The conventional treatment of psychotherapy is not very useful because it often remains at the intellectual level and the patients have no conscious access to it. This therapy can reduce symptoms but does not address the deep roots of the disorder. In that sense, ayahuasca is a good candidate to treat it, as you can gain access to the deeper parts of the brain and the emotions. He mentioned the case of a war-veteran who suffered from this disorder and ayahuasca helped him go through his trauma and have a normal life again.
