3 reasons to use WEDGE Grafting over BARK Grafting, in late winter or early spring. Before the bark starts to slip, the WEDGE Grafting Technique is one of the best you can use to graft medium and large diameter rootstocks or changing varieties in your Fruit Trees. The bark doesn’t need to be slipping and it can be used in plants with thin bark, unlike the Bark grafting technique. The wedge shaped scions secure firmly to the rootstock and no tying is necessary. It also produces a strong connection with no hollow spaces in the rootstock wood unlike the cleft graft.
