Seiko Sarx035 Review

Hello folks and welcome back to Wonder of Watches, today we look at the sarx035, it competes with my bb58 for my favourite watch in my collection, it’s arguably Seiko’s best black dial dress / everyday watch.

Released in May 2016 along with its white dialled brother the Sarx033. It forms a part of the presage collection is a Japanese Domestic Market only release. Now I always considered these watches, rightly or wrongly, to be the successor to the Sarb range. Of course, in typical Seiko fashion, they reversed the references. The Seiko sarx035 is blsck but the Sarb035 is the white version and the Sarb033, the black. Confused? Me too. But I think its fair to say that the older Sarb range has reached iconic status now. They are famous in the Seiko Community, availability is poor, and those that are available are €6 – 800 and mostly have to be shipped from Japan. They used to offered closer to the EURO 3 – 400 range.

But the Sarx are in my opinion Superior watches but even though they were more expensive at rrp have come much closer now to the sarb. I think many Seiko fans have flip flopped between the two when deciding on purchasing a watch of this style. There are major differences of course but both the Sarb and the Sarx ranges have been nicknamed the baby grand seiko as a result of the finishing.

Now, I have had an opportunity to handle a Grand Seiko recently, in fact it was the pink snowflake SBGA 413, a titanium watch and in no way does the sarx come close to that watch in terms of luxury, for a start the GS used a top of the range spring drive movement, and the sarx uses a workhorse 6R15 but yes certainly some of the design cues, particularly with regards to the case and bracelet, are here in this watch. So lets take a look.
