Victorian journalists left ‘bitter’ after being bested by Peta Credlin
The failure of Victoria’s media elite to effectively prosecute the hotel quarantine story has left them bitter, resentful and full of excuses, according to Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton.
“For months, dear leader Daniel Andrews faced mainly softball questions at his daily press conference from his pals in the media,” Mr Houghton said.
“It took just one day for Ms Credlin to trigger a series of events leading to the resignation of Victoria’s top public servant Chris Eccles.
“Ms Credlin did what the lazier members of Victoria’s press gallery should have done, she combed through evidence to the hotel quarantine inquiry and found glaring inconsistencies, in particular, a missing 6-minutes from the crucial timeline leading up to who made the fatal decision to use private security guards at hotels.”
After Ms Credlin painted a picture of how ridiculous it was that the inquiry had not asked for phone records to substantiate Eccles’ evidence, the inquiry made a formal request for phone records.
“Let’s be clear, they would never have done this if Ms Credlin hadn’t made the evidentiary gap so obvious and public,” Mr Houghton said.
“After just one day of questioning, Ms Credlin had her first scalp.
“But instead of congratulating her efforts, there were howls of outrage from certain sections of the media because before Ms Credlin worked at this news organisation, and she was Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s chief-of-staff.”
Mr Houghton said Twitter journalists had lost all credibility of pretending to be partisan by tweeting out wildly biased comments every day.
“Thankfully, we don’t live in a country where journalists are required to be registered by the state,” Mr Houghton said.
“But what this exposes is there is one rule for conservative journalists with political background and another for progressives.”
