COVID-19 Conundrum: Critical Insights on Cloud Security Posture of Enterprises, Matt Chiodi
Matt Chiodi, Chief Security Officer, Public Cloud, Palo Alto Networks
In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a rapid uptick in demand for cloud services. Organizations globally increased their cloud workloads by more than 20%, leading to an explosion of security incidents. In this talk we'll review the latest cloud threat research from Palo Alto Networks elite group of threat researchers, Unit 42. The talk will walk through findings that indicate cloud security programs for organizations globally are still in their infancy when it comes to security automation (i.e., DevSecOps and shift left). Bottom line: rapid cloud scale and complexity without automated security controls embedded across the entire development pipeline is a toxic combination.
Speaker Bio
As the Chief Security Officer of Public Cloud at Palo Alto Networks, Matt Chiodi, CISSP and CCSK, works with organizations to develop and implement security strategies for public cloud adoption and maturity. The outcomes are expedited cloud migrations, increased cloud adoption and a reduced focus on point security solutions. He does this through advisory meetings with clients, blogging, podcasting and speaking at industry events such as RSA and BSides. He currently leads the Unit 42 Cloud Threat team at Palo Alto Networks. The Cloud Threat team is an elite group of security researchers exclusively focused on public cloud concerns.
He came to Palo Alto Networks from cybersecurity startup RedLock where he was the first Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Prior to RedLock, he was at IT services conglomerate Cognizant, where he ran the global Cloud Security team (establishing internal security and governance standards for 260,000-plus employees) while later founding and managing its Cloud Security Advisory Services practice. Earlier he spent many years at Deloitte Consulting, serving as both senior consultant and senior security architect, developing and leading the execution of security strategies in fast-growth technology environments. He was also a senior solutions architect at eBay Enterprise, where he led the design and development of key business products requiring high-level confidentiality, integrity, and availability; clients included Sony Electronics, PetSmart and Bath & Body Works.
Chiodi has served on the board of various non-profits including Board VP and Governor of Philadelphia’s InfraGard. He was one of the first 100 people in the world to achieve the Cloud Security Alliance’s Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK). He has a BS in Business Information Systems from Messiah College and is currently on faculty at IANS Research.
