The People Around You Can Be the Difference in Your Cancer Fight
🤝 The people around you can be the difference between giving up and keeping going. Research shows people with strong support have better outcomes, maintain healthy habits more consistently, report less depression, and have better quality of life. Support MATTERS. 💪
For cancer patients: 🏛️ 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝟰 𝗧𝗬𝗣𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗙𝗜𝗧𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧
1️⃣ 𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗦 — Someone who checks in: "Did you move today? How did it go?" They don't judge — they help you stay on track.
2️⃣ 𝗘𝗫𝗘𝗥𝗖𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗕𝗨𝗗𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗦 — People who MOVE with you. Walking together, yoga together, just sitting with you while you stretch. Key: they go at YOUR pace. A slow walking friend > a pushy athlete.
3️⃣ 𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦 — Your cheerleaders who celebrate small wins, remind you how far you've come, and believe in you when you don't believe in yourself.
4️⃣ 𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦 — People who make exercise POSSIBLE: drive you somewhere, watch your kids, handle tasks so you have energy. Practical support is love in action.
💬 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗔𝗦𝗞: Be specific about what you need. Tell people what helps (and what doesn't). Take people up on "let me know if you need anything." It's okay to say "I need you to just listen, not fix."
👩⚕️ Your healthcare team is support too — oncologist, nurses, physical therapist, cancer exercise specialist. Share your fitness goals with them!
🐕 Don't forget your pets! Dogs are excellent walking companions — no judgment on your pace and unconditional love.
