🧘 STRESS MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES: REAL TOOLS THAT WORK FAST

For cancer patients: Here's the good news — you don't need hours of meditation or expensive retreats. These techniques take MINUTES and work FAST. Do them anywhere: waiting room, before treatment, in bed at night. 💪

TECHNIQUE #1: 4-7-8 BREATHING — Your most powerful tool.
🫁 Inhale (nose): 4 counts | ⏸️ Hold: 7 counts | 💨 Exhale (mouth): 8 counts
Do 3-4 cycles when stressed. The long exhale signals your nervous system that you're SAFE. Heart rate slows, blood pressure drops, stress hormones decrease.

VARIATION — BOX BREATHING: For high anxiety moments.
Inhale 4 → Hold 4 → Exhale 4 → Hold 4. All four sides equal, like a box. Navy SEALs use this before high-stress missions. 📦

TECHNIQUE #2: PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION (PMR)
Tense each muscle group for 5 seconds, release for 10. Work from feet to face — toes, calves, thighs, stomach, chest, hands, arms, shoulders, neck, face. ~10 minutes. Especially good before bed.

TECHNIQUE #3: 5-4-3-2-1 GROUNDING — For when anxiety spikes.

By the time you finish, your mind has shifted from anxious thoughts to present-moment awareness. Do it SILENTLY — in the MRI machine, infusion chair, middle of the night. Your secret weapon against anxiety spirals. 🎯

❄️ Cold water on wrists — activates vagus nerve instantly
🎵 Humming or singing — vibration stimulates vagus nerve
