How to get your skin tones right

If your skin tones are off, even slightly, the whole image can feel wrong. It’s one of the first things people notice, and getting it right adds a lot of credibility and polish to your grade.

Here’s a quick way to fix it:

• Select the node you’ll use to correct the skin
• Go to Power Windows, drop a circular window on the face
• Hit the highlight button to isolate just the skin
• Check the vectorscope, and see if the skin tone sits close to the guideline
• If that line isn’t showing, enable “Show Skin Tone Indicator” in the settings
• Open your HDR wheels, and gently adjust the balance until it aligns with the guideline
• Once done, disable the window, clean up your blacks or contrast if needed

Why it matters: skin tones are what connect the viewer emotionally to the subject. If they look too green, too magenta, or just unnatural, it breaks the immersion. This is a simple fix, but it makes the whole grade feel more intentional and professional.
