The 4 Telltale Signs of Spinal Stenosis include, pain with walking and standing, leg pain worse than lower back pain, (+) shopping cart sign, and NO pain when sitting. Leg pain that is felt during spinal stenosis is caused by something called neurogenic claudication ...yet another fancy term to describe what happens as the nerves become compressed. Remember, stenosis is a medical term that simply means narrowing of the spaces where the nerves travel. When our spine is upright or arched as when standing or walking the space for the nerves is naturally less. When we bend forward, we increase the space around the nerves. This becomes obvious in people with spinal stenosis as they have leg pain when standing or walking (spine upright) and the pain goes away when they bend forward while walking (lean on a shopping cart) or sit down. If you or someone you know has spinal stenosis like this video, comment below, or email me directly at charliejohnsondpt@gmail.com.
