Herjolfsnes Hems: 3 Medieval Fabric Finishing Techniques [CC]
In preparation of me sewing a Herjolfsnes Norse medieval garment I thought: let’s do a really niche video that will interest extremely few people!
These are three ways to finish a hem or prevent fraying, taken from Woven into the Earth (Else Østergård) and Medieval Garments Reconstructed (Lilli Fransen, Anna Nørgaard & Else Østergård) and compared to what I think their modern counterparts are. I highly recommend you buy, loan or borrow these books. If you want to buy them, please consider smal/local bookshops!
Don’t forget to turn on the closed captions for explanations and comments throughout the video, and do share your own favourite 'medieval' sewing techniques in the comment section!
