Allis Chalmers WD 45 Marvel Schebler Carb Service

A Marvel Schebler Carb off of a 1956 Allis Chalmers WD45 is the subject of today's exercise. If you saw the recent First Start of the WD, you've seen the product of this video in action already. So many details of the cleaning of the carb would have had to be left out if this had been included in the First Start video. Having a separate video will allow those that may have the desire to see in more depth and detail the process I typically use for servicing these as well as Zenith carbs on old machines.
One thing to bear in mind, this video is not a total restoration or even that thorough of a 'servicing' of the carb. Usually they will be subjected to a few cycles of an ultrasonic parts washer filled with a commercial carb cleaning product. I'm hitting this one with a lick and a promise for the explicit purpose of getting the WD to run to assess the condition of the motor. IF she becomes a 'keeper', proper full service and rebuild will be performed.
Normal carb service for one such as this that has sat for an extended period usually includes the utilization of an ultrasonic parts washer for the cleaning of the internal passages, jets and nozzles. An Ultrasonic washer electronically creates an "ULTRA" high frequency of waves that pass through the liquid parts cleaner...whatever it may be....and the resultant vibration causes the release of the normal nastiness that resides in these old carbs. They are the best device I've found to clear the tiny internal passages through the body of the carb that are extremely difficult to clean by normal means....compressed air and a spray can of choke/carb cleaner. Don't get me wrong....that technique and many others may provide the same result, but I guarantee it will not be accomplished with any less effort.
During the filming of this video I had no idea yet of the condition of the engine or even IF it was going to start and run. No reason to do a stellar rebuild on a carb that may NOT be put to use. One thing for sure though nothing done in this video is in vain, because if it is to get a thorough going over in the near future, it will be a much easier task to accomplish and most of the nastiest of the issues will in fact already be behind us.
