IWC Pilot's Watches: Case Comparison (Mark 16 and Mark 18)

I went for a tour of the authorized IWC dealers while on holidays recently. I was interested in the IWC Mark 18, but when I tried it on I didn't like the fit. I had just tried on a used Mark 16 at another dealer. The Mark 16 is only 1mm smaller in diameter than the Mark 18, but it wore much smaller. 40mm is usually my sweet spot for sports watches, but for a few reasons, including a 50mm lug to lug dimension and chunkier straight case sides going right down to the wrist, the Mark 18 didn't fit my 6.5" wrist very ergonomically. It looked very long and flat from the sides, leaving large gaps on either end as my wrist falls away. The 41mm Mk18 Ceramic Top Gun was very comfortable, with a slightly different case design that seemed to look right on me. If it had a black dial like the steel 40mm Mk18, I may have caved and bought it.

I thought this comparison may be of interest to you, as I had no idea IWC's cases could differ so much in the same style and size range. Granted, one model (the Mk16) has been around for a while.

I may make another video and bring in the larger models, like the Big Pilot and the 3777 Chronograph, etc. By the way, I thought the Big Pilot curved with my wrist better than the Mk18. It's all down to what we like. Comment if you'd like to see this!
