10 SCARIEST Pets People Actually Own!
For most people, keeping pets is a good way to relax and find some much needed companionship. But I
don’t think you’d be able to relax if any of these animals is your pet. Today we’ll be taking a look at 10 of
the scariest pets people actually own. Now, when I say scary, I don’t mean they look scary, but rather
deadly scary. Number one has such a goofy face, you wouldn’t think it could even hurt a fly, but it’s
actually a stone cold killer. Stick with me till the end to find out more.
Let’s begin shall we?

Number 10. Large Constrictors
I seriously don’t know why some people would keep snakes, any snake as a pet. Although it’s true that
not all of them are scary dangerous, they aren’t also the kind of animals that you would cuddle with at
night, especially the big constrictors.
The Burmese python is a particular favorite among exotic pet enthusiast, even beginners, probably
because they are relatively easy to take care of. However, these guys grow really, really big and it
doesn’t take long before a novice snake owner finds himself way in over his head. When they get too
big, people normally only have two choices, give the snake away or release it into the wild. The latter is
probably the reason why the Florida everglades is overrun with these creatures and are considered an
invasive species.
Size isn’t the only thing that makes them scary. They are also extremely strong animals capable of
squeezing the life out both small and large prey.

Number 9. Ostriches
Just a few years ago, no one would even think of getting pet ostrich. Today, it’s so easy to get your
hands on one. Not the mean, not even the eggs, but the whole frickin bird. Not all of them though, as
the wild species are still pretty much off limits. There is a captivity raised species though, and they’re
becoming pretty popular and not only as pets.
Every single part of this ostrich has commercial value; it’s skin, meat, eggs, bones, and feathers are
considered premium quality goods, and ostrich farms have sprung up all over, like chicken coops.
Adopting a chick from one of these farms is quite easy, and just by looking at one of those tiny chicks, it
not hard to understand why people would want one. Thing is, they don’t stay tiny for long.
They aren’t just overgrown chickens. If you’re going to compare them to any other animal, it would be
to a velociraptor; quite fast, fast enough to run you down; very aggressive, and worst of all, armed with
sharp talons.
Ostriches use those talons as weapons and coupled with their world-renowned powerful kicks, it’s bad
news when one of these creatures suddenly decides to attack you.

Number 8. Big Cats
Big cats, especially lions and tigers, are extremely popular pets sought after by exotic pet lovers, the
rich, the eccentric, and probably also those with a death wish. Even Mike Tyson had a pet tiger once, but
now he’s very much into pigeons which are a whole lot tamer.
In the past, only zoos and circuses would be able to own big cats. Nowadays, all it takes is having a lot of
money, the right connections, and it is entirely possible that you can be the proud owner of a lion or a
tiger cub, that is if you have the guts for it.
While there are many instances of captive raised lions still remembering their caretakers years after
they’re released into the wild, the number of fatal attacks by pet big cats still outnumber them. It more
like for these animals to maul you to death when they see an opportunity. If you need more proof, just
take a look at what happened to Roy Horn of Siegfried and Roy fame. He was mauled by a tiger called
Manticore on stage during a performance. The tiger severed his spine and although he survived, he was
never the same again.

Number 7. Turtles
I bet you didn’t expect turtles to be on this list. In all honesty, so was I, but by looking more into the
dangers of turtles, I can say that they are as dangerous as any of the other animals on this list, but only
in a different way.
They are very popular pets, usually given to kids as they are so easy to take care of. All you need is a
fishbowl, a little bit of water, some turtle pellets and watch them grow, albeit very slowly. The simplicity
of turtles as pets probably is the reason why become the first pet of millions of toddlers all over the
world. But did you know that giving your three year old a pet turtle can be the same as giving him
poison?
They are scary because they are known carriers of salmonella, you know, that microscopic bacteria
found in raw chicken and the reason why your home economics teacher told you time and time again to
make sure that the chicken you’re frying is cooked through.
