The National Security Agency issued an urgent alert urging Americans to reboot their internet router

The National Security Agency issued an urgent alert urging Americans to reboot their internet routers now to defend against cyberattacks. The warning arrives as home network intrusions rise, with Russia’s GRU intelligence allegedly exploiting vulnerable routers worldwide to steal military, government and critical infrastructure data. GRU actors—also known as APT28, Fancy Bear, and Forest Blizzard—have been observed collecting credentials and compromising devices, including TP-Link routers via CVE-2023-50224. Their operations appear broad, targeting victims globally with emphasis on sensitive defense and infrastructure information. To cut risk, the NSA recommends changing default usernames and passwords, disabling remote management from the internet, updating firmware, and replacing end of support devices. Cautious about certificate warnings in browsers and emails. The agency also urges regular upgrades of equipment and software, data backups, disconnecting devices when not in use, and restricting administration to internal network. Victims should report incidents to FBI or IC3 for investigation today.
