Death on the High Seas - Destruction of the Blücher
I'd like to express my condolences to the Royal Family following the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His many contributions to the British nation and unrelenting support of Her Majesty the Queen through thick and thin will be sorely missed, and I, like many, looked upon him as a grandfather figure who helped to give our people confidence during their darkest times. One of the last living reminders of a bygone age, Britain and the Commonwealth will never be the same without him. Rest in Peace (10/06/1921 - 09/04/2021).
In this new episode of Death on the High Seas, we return to the opening months of World War II, where, on the frozen Oslofjord in Norway, the invulnerability of the German war machine, and its highly advanced technology, was rumbled by Victorian-era turrets and torpedoes manned by inexperienced conscripts, the victim of the seldom remembered but vital defence during the Battle of Drøbak Sound, being the seven month old heavy cruiser Blücher.
