Tug Undaunted with her barge Pere Marquette 41.
On August 30, 2021, the tug & barge were sailing through Sturgeon Bay, en route from Marinette, Wisconsin to Holland, Michigan.
The Undaunted Keel was laid down on Nov 27,1943 as the Krystal K at Port Arthur, Texas. Commissioned in 1944, she assisted in the salvage and service of US warships. In 1947 she was decommissioned and renamed the Undaunted.
The Pere Marquette 41 began her life on March 21, 1940. Built-in Manitowoc as a self-propelled car ferry called the Midland 41. She would carry up to 376 passengers with 60 staterooms, 34 rail freight cars, and 50 autos each trip. On March 28, 1998, her engines were removed and converted to an open barge. Today she hauls mainly stone and occasionally pig iron, slag, and steel.
Today she sailes with an excavator, front-end loader, skid steer, and a hopper conveyor system. This makes her a very unique vessel, capable of hauling and unloading almost anything.
