East Auckland Gems - Delicious Donuts, Mangemangeroa + Waitawa Regional Park, NEW ZEALAND

East Auckland holds some great hidden gems. It's a fantastic mix of urban and rural where you don't need to travel very far for an escape to beautiful nature or some amazing food too.

We took advantage of a warm, sunny winter's day in Auckland and kick started our morning with doughnuts! Mamas Donuts has a few locations across NZ with two in Auckland. We visited their Botany shop. Wonderful friendly staff and amazing fresh, handmade donuts.

Mangemangeroa Reserve has a few different walks and entry-ways. If you need a car park, Google Maps address of 108 Somerville Road will make you miss it, so be on the lookout for the white barn on Somerville Road to turn into for parking and the main Mangemangeroa Valley Walkway entrance.

TIP: If you're keen to see the estuary or extend your walk from Shelly Park Beach to Cockle Bay, you should check tide-times beforehand.

Waitawa Regional Park is on the south-eastern coast of Auckland out towards Clevedon (a rural town). It has beautiful views of the Hauraki Gulf as well as walking and mountain biking tracks, a wharf and Mataitai Bay Beach.
