Stair Remodel | Hack ( Removing Stair Carpet ) DIY - Save money - Pt 1

In Case you Missed it. Here is one of the things you have to do if your going to do a stair remodel. Remodel your carpet and or stairs , but first, Removing your carpet is something your going to have to do.. Here is the first Video i did Removing Carpet on my Stair treads. I've looked at Home Depot Carpet and Empire Carpet. As you know carpet Is not cheap. But one of the ways you can save big money and what Home Depot and Empire Carpet will lack to tell you is by removing the carpet yourself you save money. You can save $50 to $125 a square foot if you remove the carpet yourself. When we bought this house the carpets were cleaned, If you look at the red arrow you could see what the carpet look like when it was cleaned. But as we walked on the carpet you can see stains on the carpet were coming up within a week. So we used different products to remove the stains and it would look like the carpet were new, but after a week or so the stains would come up again so we decided to remove the carpet and have it replaced. We found out beside the carpet cost and installation the cost, the removal costs was something that we could do ourselves. So we decided to save some money and remove the carpet ourselves. So this is a video showing you how easy it is to remove your carpet from your stairs.
After removing the carpet we find out there's a few options that we could do, we weren't sure if we wanted to put carpet back in so we started to look into installing precut prestained Oak treads and kick plate. It has a really good look. But in doing the research we found out it's very expensive for us it would run anywhere from 800 to $1,200 just to buy the product. We were thinking about recutting the 2 x 12 so the joint on the ends would get tighter so we wouldn't have to fill the gaps on the left and right side of the tread and for us just materials along with run about $200. which is in our price range but, I think using Douglas fir 2 x 12 is good for installing carpet but as far as staining or painting it, I think it would look like if someone built a log cabin that's what their stairs would look like. 1 1/2" thick I think is too thick of a look. So we looked around and thought about using flooring material that has a tongue and groove. But that would have took a lot of work and gluing and clamping and sanding and cutting to size up the blanks. if you got the time you could do it that way. but I think we found a better way to do this. Check out my upcoming part 2 video. and it'll show you what we did. Thanks for stopping by, and don't forget to check on my other how to videos.

See what i decided to do. watch this short video of what i did.
