Climbing With No Hands: Can You Learn More This Way?

In today's video, we have Jen Wood and Tom Randall doing a "challenge and play" boulder session with a difference - it's no hands this time! You will have noticed from some of our previous videos that we REALLY rate this form of climbing as a method for learning more about efficient movement than many other types of climbing.

The reason why, is two-fold. 1) is that without your hands helping you, you really have to use your lower body (position, centre-of-gravity and momentum-carry) in a super effective manner. If you don't get it right, you will fall off! 2) is that "challenge and play" puts us into a mindset/state under which, learning is often much faster. In a way, you can think of it as purposeful play or purposeful practice. And it is SO much fun!

Funnily enough, many of the best climbers that we know, work with, or have observed, are very good at this form of climbing. It might look a bit funny or not very "normal" but trust us, this type of climbing has huge potential when combined with quality physical training and general technical mastery.
