SAAB 99 Turbo brochures (1977 & 1978), plus rally photographs
For this SAAB 99 Turbo brochure review, two copies are featured - for the 1977 Swedish market, and the UK market in 1978. At this time, prior to the two-door 99 Turbos being put on sale, it was the three-door on offer, based on the 99 Combi Coupe bodyshell.
The UK market brochure is described in detail, and the differences between it and the '77 Swedish market publication are shown. Details of the Turbo's interior, engine specification, trim and colour options are given.
Also included are photographs of the Clarion-sponsored SAAB 99 Turbo rally cars competing in UK events, in the hands of Stig Blomqvist. These are all later two-door cars. Events include the Scottish Rally and the Welsh Rally.
Finally, I've also included a period magazine advertisement for the three-door turbos, headlined "JET BLACK".
The 99 Turbo made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1977, finished in Pearl White. Three-door cars only were offered initially (although a tiny number of Cardinal Red five-doors were also built). For the UK, black was the only colour option. The later two-door cars (1979-1981) could be purchased here in the UK, finished in bright red or black. Other markets had further options, including green metallic and Polar White.
I've long been a fan of all the early SAAB Turbos, a brochure review for the first generation 900 Turbo has already been uploaded and can be found on this channel (https://youtu.be/uf7Gh6AvTBk). To view all the videos now on this channel, including several on classic SAABs, please visit the homepage: https://www.youtube.com/user/oldclassiccarRJ/videos, part of the Old Classic Car https://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/ site.
Thanks for watching.
