Donald Trump is a ‘lightning rod’ for attacks from the left

Attacks from the left are a “threat to our democracy” and former US President Donald Trump is a “lightning rod” for them, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“This is a trend, an assault against mainstream values … it is the leftist attacks against conservatives,” Mr Kenny said.

“It is the increasingly aggressive cancel culture, and the media and political fashions that increasingly attempt to isolate, mock, denigrate and silence conservative views; no matter how sensible, mainstream and logical they are.”

Mr Kenny said these attacks can be “insidious,” but sometimes they are “brutal and intimidating”.

“Just ask J.K. Rowling about what happens when you suggest biology determines sex, just look at the attacks on Tony Abbott and John Howard”.

“Look at the lopsided media reaction to that sickening Capitol Hill riot in Washington by the Trump supporters compared to numerous and endless violent and deadly riots involving Antifa and other leftist groups.”

Mr Kenny said Donald Trump is a “lightning rod for this movement” because he attacks the left and calls them out.

“He is his own worst enemy of course, refusing to accept an election result and using over the top rhetoric, but he’s been banned by Twitter, while even murderous dictators keep their accounts,” he said.

“Trump, despite all his manifest flaws, resonates with so many so strongly because he fights back”.

“This unofficial assault by the so-called progressive left against freedom of political expression on the right is one of the most serious problems we confront.”
