A black panther is the melanistic colour variant of the leopard (Panthera pardus) and the jaguar (Panthera onca). In each species, a certain combination of alleles stimulates the production of large amounts of the dark pigment melanin in the animal's fur and skin.They have strong and flexible bodies, long tails which give them good balance, and they are powerful hunters with their sharp teeth and claws.Contrary to popular belief, the black panther is not an individual species of cat. Panthers are also quite agile, leaping up to twenty feet to catch up on their prey. One of the most important and common black panther animal facts is that they are mostly nocturnal in nature. This means that these animals are mostly hunting during the nighttime and they also spend the better part of their days in rest.
