You may be overlooking one of the most important aspects of your tennis serve. It doesn’t have anything to do with your racquet or swing path on your service motion. Many players are ignoring the importance of their off arm, also known as the tossing arm, on their serve. This can be causing double faults, inconsistency, lack of power and accuracy.

After releasing your serve toss, make sure that you keep your off arm straight as possible to get optimal extension. Then, you want to rotate it so that your hand faces towards the side fence, your wrist is neutral, and your fingers are spread. If you’re unable to reach this position, you may have a tight lat or rotator cuff. Therefore, consider performing corrective exercises to open up your body and develop great mobility, stability, and strength.

Finally, you need to connect your tossing arm to your dominant arm while you’re working on your serve technique. Keep in mind to turn your shoulder as you perform your service motion.
Practice this concept when you’re in a non-competitive environment to take away any extra pressure, and focus on the process of continuous improvement.
