I'm sharing a "How-to" for creating the most beautiful Shabby Chic Pumpkins using decor moulds and air dry clay.
We will be crafting an adorable Fabric Pumpkin Topiary.
AND I will be showing you all the goodies I picked up during my Hobby Lobby Haul. And you'll see an assortment of items Mr. Shabby brought home when I asked him to go Thrifting for me. We've got so many crafting projects to do today, so let's get started!
Using DAS air dry clay, and various decor moulds, (listed below), we will create these Shabby Chic Pumpkins for Fall. The techniques I show you in this tutorial gives you a gorgeous, aged, vintage look to simple plastic pumpkins that I purchased from Walmart.
Remove clay from packaging and gently work to warm it up and make it more pliable. Lightly dust mould with cornstarch and tap out excess, to allow easier release of the clay design element. Work clay into the moulds, and remove any excess clay with fingers. I also use a Bondo spreader to make the back nice and even. Flip mould over and gently rock to release clay design. You may need to use a wet paintbrush to smooth out the edges. I use Titebond glue and spread thinly with a small brush. Place your clay applique on your pumpkin, and gently press all around design to adhere to surface. Also use your brush handle to work clay into the lobes of the pumpkin. To ensure your clay doesn't slide off, use blue painter's tape to secure in place. Once clay has dried overnight, you're ready for paint!

Small Pumpkin painted in Waverly Chalk paint in Celery, brushed with Folk Art Clear Wax, and Folk Art Antiquing Wax. The embellishment was made using Iron Orchid Designs (IOD) Mould Classical Elements.
The Shabby Pink Pumpkin was painted in Waverly Chalk paint Ballet Slipper, brushed with Folk Art Clear Wax, and Folk Art Antiquing Wax. The embellishment was made using the Prima Redesign Mould Baroque Swirls.
The Shabby Ivory Pumpkin was painted in Waverly Chalk paint Plaster, brushed with Folk Art Clear Wax, and Folk Art Antiquing Wax. The embellishment was made using the IOD Mould Classical Elements.
The Shabby Pumpkin Topiary was made using fabric purchased from Hobby Lobby, stuffed with Polyfil from Walmart, and stitched with embroidery floss from Hobby Lobby. I used a skewer from Walmart to hold pumpkins together. You may need to play around with the bottom pumpkin to get the topiary to stand on it's own.
