First Month Teaching on Skillshare: Can An Absolute Beginner Earn Money?

Get Two Months Free of Skillshare: https://skl.sh/2QNIs8R

EDIT: I am no longer doing teacher referrals for the 50 for 50 bonus. Sorry folks.

I joined Skillshare as a teacher at the end of October of 2018. People said it was super easy to make money with it, but I was pretty skeptical, to be honest. There's lot of people out there who say that THIS or THAT opportunity is easy to make money with. So I joined Skillshare as a teacher to find out. This video is just me explaining what happened in the first month.

First, I wish I had known that I could have gotten $50 if I had found a teacher to refer me as a teacher. When Skillshare teachers refer other teachers, Skillshare will give them each $50 (if the new teacher publishes a class within 30 days). I would have made more than 2x what I actually did, but OH WELL.

Next, I wish that I had tried harder to promote the $10 referral. I was pretty busy with life in November, so I couldn't devote more than an hour or so per week to making/posting/promoting my Skillshare materials. I managed to get one post to my blog, and one (or maybe two) short YouTube videos.

In November, I only managed to earn about $30. I got about 20 students in my classes, though many more people watched a minute or two here and there without "enrolling." Still, it was $30 profit, since I did not invest any money in tools, classes, courses, or help to make that $30. With Skillshare, it costs $0 to teach, and there's no requirement that you buy the subscription to teach.

I did not use any editing tools, nor did I add any fancy dancy effects. I haven't learned how to do all that just yet. So truly, the experience you see here is one of a total beginner, without the investment of tons of resources or any special skills.

Also, I am not a professional teacher, nor do I have any real significant specialized skills. I made videos about topics I am currently interested in and learning about myself. Just passing along valuable information that I took time to learn myself.

Skillshare offered tons of incentives to encourage me to post in November. There were "teach challenges" where they offered gift cards, equipment (like microphones) or other prizes to keep me invested in creating material to post. It made the process a lot more fun, and I felt less isolated than I would have otherwise.

Anyway, I hope you found this video helpful. If you want to teach on Skillshare (so we can both get $50) and maybe you can earn your first dollar online, drop me a comment and we'll connect so I can refer you and you can get started.

Cheers!
