Supercharging EV Adoption: The Obvious Solution Hiding in Plain Sight
...Source: https://insideevs.com/news/776889/level-2-ev-chargers-for-renters/ Transcript: Per InsideEVs, the next big boost to Electric Vehicle adoption might not come from cheaper cars, but from smarter infrastructure—and that starts at apartment buildings. A new proposal in California could use $100 million a year from the state’s carbon-emissions trading program to install Level 2 chargers at multifamily housing. Renters make up a huge part of the U.S. population—over 45 million households—and they've largely been left out of the EV movement due to lack of charging access.
Republican strategist Mike Murphy, who’s leading the effort, says the plan would install chargers at no cost to landlords, who could then charge tenants a small monthly fee. A recent study found that three out of four renters in California would be willing to pay up to $50 more per month for a reserved parking spot with a charger.
Also, Rivian laid off 600 employees this week as it prepares to launch its new R2 SUV early next year. The mid-size EV is expected to start around $45,000 but faces a tough market without help from the now-expired $7,500 federal tax credit.
Meanwhile, QuantumScape, backed by Volkswagen, began sending out near-production solid-state battery samples to customers, marking major progress toward commercial deployment.
