How to Run When Tired (14 tried and tested tips for runners)

Ever felt that you are running with no energy? We go through several possibilities to understand why and how to run when tired. These are tried and tested tip for runners.

A little or a lot can be happening in your life that makes you feel tired, rundown, with little or no energy to run. Experiencing lethargy can make you feel too tired to run. This can happen at all stages of a runner's progress, whether a beginner or professional. Assuming that you are medically fit and healthy, going for a run could be the antidote. It could actually be as simple as getting out there and... Run.

In this video we cover some essential points to explore before heading out the door for a run and provide some ideas of what to look for when running so that you feel confident in knowing how to run without getting tired. Constantly assessing your body's feedback is a priority, but must be reflected against your mindset too. You may feel too tired to run. However, feeling physically tired and actually being physically tired can be two different things. Knowing when to push or when to rest comes with experience, but giving up without trying is all too easy. Self-motivating to keep running without injuring yourself is a key development in being able to enjoy running. Sometimes we may need a little help and turn to others for inspiration.

At the time of filming this video, the UK was not locked down because of coronvirus / COVID-19, Parkrun was still running and running clubs were still meeting. When we globally get back to normal and able to meet again, running with friends, in a group, in a club can be the biggest encouragement. If you feel too tired to run there is nothing better than having a trusted friend provide you with encouragement to keep in running. Until then, the advice from the UK is to run only once a day, by yourself or with family and avoid other runners out there. Or find someone to motivate you remotely.
