▪️ This video shows how useful are 'steering-wheel basting stitches' to close/sew the open lips of a sunvisor. It is advisable the use of standard thin thread (92= number 8)and a thin needle to do the handsewing.
▪️ This time I have used a thick leather 1.6 mm and it was necessary to skive its edge to 0.8 mm. The skiving was done 0.9 mm from the edge. Not so close to avoid a bulky edge. Just enough to let the cut seams deepen between and get an even surface.
I would recommend the use of a soft and pliable leather whose stretchy side would be laid lengthwise of sunvisor.
▪️ For this demonstration I am using a very sturdy leather, therefore to put the cover onto the visor it was necessary to disassemble part of the sewing I did with the machine. Otherwise, it would have been very difficult to proceed.
▪️ An interesting tip is how to assemble back the sewing trying not to be noticeable. The blind handsewing was useful this time, but with two thin needles. I will do a next special video showing at detail the process. I hope you inspire and find this information useful!
