Think Globally, Act Locally in your Photo Processing

Photographer Jason P. Odell discusses the use of localized adjustments when post-processing your photographs in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.

Sometimes, adjustments made with a global slider look good in one place, but bad in others. The solution is to make localized adjustments on your images. In Lightroom 5, this is done using the brush and gradient tools. These tools allow you to adjust regions of your image with different effects.

In this example of a landscape, we'll use the clarity tool locally to enhance the rocks in the foreground without affecting the soft tones of the mountains and water.
