Mike Rowe receives SkillsUSA's 2014 Torch Carrier award

Mike Rowe returned to SkillsUSA's National Leadership and Skills Conference in 2014 to accept the organization's "Torch Carrier" award, presented to Rowe in honor of the mikeroweWORKS Foundation's support of SkillsUSA since 2008 and Rowe's relentless dedication in promoting the importance of a skilled workforce in America.

In 2014, for the fourth straight year, Rowe's foundation awarded travel scholarships to SkillsUSA competitors who could not otherwise attend the national competition. Rowe also delivered a rousing keynote address at the 2013 Opening Ceremony of SkillsUSA's NLSC. His comments at the Awards Ceremony in 2014 were shorter, but he did surprise the large crowd at Kemper Arena by making them a part of what will hopefully be the opening segment of his forthcoming CNN program, "Somebody's Gotta Do It." Rowe and a CNN film crew also shot a variety of segments for the show during the SkillsUSA Championships, where Rowe "competed" with SkillsUSA students in a variety of contest areas.
