Folk Art: "Traditional Ioway Beading: Two Needle Appliqué," Olivia Brien (grades 9-12)
The Ioway People, today split into two tribes, have been beading in this style for generations. Olivia Brien, a member of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska, has written these instructions to teach more people about the art of beading in the two needle appliqué style. The provided design is inspired by a photograph of an Ioway woman’s skirt from the 1800s.
