Welcome to another piano video at Merriam Pianos on YouTube. Today, we’ll be looking at Stu’s custom sound settings on the Kawai CA79.
We’ve got a ton of requests for this type of video - how do you adjust onboard settings to achieve an optimized, customized piano sound? Stu’s going to take us through step by step.
If this is your first time to the channel, please like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell!
Why Bother Customizing Settings?
Some may ask why it’s even necessary to go about adjusting settings given that the factory default settings should already be good to go. Well, given that Kawai uses the same tone generator on several different models, all of which have different amplifiers and speaker arrays, the factory default settings, while certainly satisfactory, have not been totally optimized for each instrument, not for one’s own personal subjective preferences. Frankly, if you’re investing in a high-end digital piano, it’s definitely worth your time to play around to try and get the best possible musical experience out of the instrument.
How to Adjust Audio Settings in the SK-EX Rendering Mode to Stu’s Custom Settings
NOTE: While you can access the Virtual Technician editing software on various piano patches, for the purposes of this video, we’ll be looking at the Virtual Technician applied to the SK-EX Rendering Mode.
First of all, make sure you’re in the SK-EX Rendering mode
-Press the grey bar to enter the editing mode
-Adjust the ‘Rendering Type” from Classic to Rich
-Adjust the ‘Ambience’ from Large to Rich
-Select ‘Virtual Technician’
-Adjust ‘Voicing’ from Normal to Mellow1
-Adjust ‘Touch Curve’ from Normal to Light1
-Adjust ‘Resonance Depth’ down to 5
Now, go and try to find your own favourite settings!
